Our history

Established in 2002, the Enlighten Education Trust's founding vision was to 'improve the quality of teaching, learning and life in the Overstrand'. With the recent population explosion in the area, the level of unemployment and poverty has increased and the quality of education in disadvantaged communities is often problematic.

VISUAL ARTS

The Enlighten Visual Art and Craft project continued to grow during the past year. Both the Enlighten Art facilitators have elevated the Enlighten Art and Craft Project to the next level of competency. We are happy to report that pottery classes will commenced in 2019 under the trained and watchful eye of Karin von Maltzahn. Art learners have been identified from three schools in nearby communities and divided into two groups – a senior, more advanced group, and a junior group. Their talent, commitment and their love of the arts are truly inspiring. A talented group of learners took part in the regional Art competition called ‘Pictures of the Overberg’. Two learners in the senior division won gold medals and they proudly received their prizes at a prestigious gala event held at the Zeitz MOCAA at the waterfront in Cape Town. MUSIC, VISUAL ARTS & CRAFTS

ENLIGHTEN SHINES DURING LOCKDOWN 2020 Our Music and Art Projects has been busy as always. Enlighten Education Trust participated during the first ever Virtual Education Africa International Marimba & Steelpan Competition in December 2020. Enlighten Education Trust was the only entry of the Western-Cape that participated. There were two main entries; Waldorf Hermanus & Botrivier Marimbas. Botrivier won 2nd place in the category Battle of the Bands. Edward Hoorn from Botrivier won 2nd place in the Solo Marimba category and Waldorf Hermanus won the prize for Most promising Band in the the entire competition – they won a TOMS Keyboard for their school.
