  1. LIBRARY SERVICES INCLUDING TOY LIBRARY

PROJECT: LIBRARY
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To enable access to reading material and improve the literacy levels of all children.

PROJECT: TOY LIBRARY
To provide educational toys and play areas where children can use a wide variety of toys and creative activities to learn.

PROJECT: AFRIKAANS LITERACY
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To enable access to reading material and improve the literacy levels of all children.

  • Help/assist Somali and Xhosa learners at Hawston Primary and Mount Pleasant Primary to understand and read Afrikaans, which is the LOT of the school.
  • Assist Afrikaans speaking learners to read fluently and comprehend.
  • All learners must be confident and able to communicate and work together in their grades.

PROJECT: SHINE LITERACY HOUR (HERMANUS WALDORF)
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
Language is the key that unlocks literacy, and literacy opens up possibilities for all kinds of new learning. Without sound language and literacy skills, children are likely to struggle throughout their school careers. The Shine Literacy Hour gives Grade Two children extra support with their reading, writing and speaking. When children become good readers and writers, their confidence and self-esteem grow, as does their enthusiasm for learning.

  1. EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

PROJECT: QUALITY ECD EDUCENTRES
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To support all ECD sites in the Overstrand region. To train and support 64 ECD Educare centres in the Overstrand to implement a Learning Programme.

PROJECT: SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAMME
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To assist parents to support the provision of effective Grade R learning in four Grade R Classes in Hawston Primary and Mount Pleasant Primary Schools and two Grade R Centres in Zwelihle with a high quality education so that he/she will reach his/her full potential and become a citizen who makes a positive contribution to society.
To assist parents to prepare learners to be school ready when they enter Grade 1. To assist parents to strengthen these outcomes we will endeavour to ensure that:

  • Learners are confident and better prepared for school in terms of the perceptual skills.
  • There is a heightened interest among parents and an improved bond between parents and learners.
  • Communication between teachers and parents is enhanced.

PROJECT: DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To give support to the ECD facilitators of EET and ECD centres in Overstrand during the DSD registration cycle.

  1. MUSIC AND ARTS, INCLUDING POTTERY

PROJECT: MUSIC
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To teach learners how to master (play) a musical instrument (Violin, Violoncello, Recorder, Guitar, Keyboard, Piano, Marimba). To read musical notation and perform as soloist, ensemble and in an orchestra, which includes accreditation through UNISA examination.

PROJECT: ARTS AND CRAFTS
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
ART FOR GRADE 7’S: OPENING THE DOORS TO CREATIVITY (YEAR 1)
To introduce Visual Art, Art and Craft and Art techniques to young primary school learners (Grades R-6) who participate in Arts and Crafts classes. To awake in them a love for Art and enable them to use art techniques as well as inspire and encourage them to be more creative and to participate by doing Art and experiment with Art ideas.

The project introduces, develops and enables Art ideas, Art skills and techniques for the learners who may continue doing Art and further their Art skills in higher grades.

  1. E-LEARNING, SMART KIDS, INCLUDING MATHEMATICS

PROJECT: E-LEARNING
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
ICT CENTRE
Centre itself: Provide facility for young people to do Research, access Literacy and Numeracy support.
Teacher professional development: e-Learning training and support to all educators in the area. Leadership and Management training.

ROBOTICS
To have a Robotics Club in Hermanus: Give learners the opportunity to develop primary engineering skills, as well as personal life skills within a group dynamic.
School Outreach: To have a Robotics Club in the local schools. To broaden the access to the disadvantaged communities of Hermanus and surrounding towns.

PROJECT: E-LEARNING - LITERACY AND NUMERACY
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To promote the E-Learning vision and programme of Enlighten Education Trust and to support Literacy and Numeracy in schools in the Overstrand.

PROJECT: ROBOTICS / CODING CLUB
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
The Robotic Club gives youngsters free access to three levels of robot building activities. The basic engineering skill development sessions open career opportunities for these participants.

  1. ENRICHMENT FOR FOUNDATION PHASE INCLUDING TOY THERAPY and COUNSELLING

PROJECT: FOUNDATION PHASE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
The Foundation Phase Enrichment Programme was developed by an occupational therapist to improve basic school readiness skills, literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy levels in the Foundation Phase.

Facilitators work with each identified learner, individually, in an activity-based, interactive programme designed to work on the areas of weakness.

PROJECT: TOY THERAPY
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
The Programme consists of a variety of play activities designed by experienced Foundation Phase teachers who identified gaps in skills needed to cope with the work in the Foundation Phase. We aim to improve these skills through structured play.

Facilitators work with each identified learner, in groups of 2 (maintaining Covid 19 protocol), in an activity-based, interactive programme designed to work on the areas of weakness.

Some of the existing staff members will be trained in toy therapy to:
1. Reach more learners
2. Ensure sustainability

PROJECT: Counselling
OBJECTIVE (Intent)
To provide counselling to learners and teachers in partnership with the Overberg Education District.

To take learners out of their context and do life skills development to build their self-esteem.
